Where can I score?

Time: 2003-2008
Place: Pearl Street Courthouse, Boulder CO

When I first moved back from France at the end of 6th grade, I asked around to find out where I could score (and no, not a basketball shot). The answer I got from one of the only kids I knew that got high was “the courthouse on Pearl”, and I’ll be damned, anything you wanted to get your hands on, that was the place to go. I met a lot of not-so-good people down there, but at the time, those were my kind of people at the time. This is where it all truly started.

I ran away from home and ditched school a lot during my high school years. Where I would end up most of the time was Pearl Street. And if anyone knew Pearl Street back in 2005 or so, this is where all the bums, junkies and dropouts congregated. I’ve gotten high, drunk, beat up, robbed, shaken down and arrested all within this vicinity. I still to this day don’t even know if they actually have court that happens in that courthouse... but I’m pretty sure they’ve made it illegal to loiter on the courthouse lawn now.

Too many stories to tell them all individually, but every time I walk down Pearl my mind is like a movie playing over all the insane moments. And no, they don’t make me sad, or fill me with regret. I feel nothing but GRATITUDE, because I’m alive and free, a lot of the people I surrounded myself with back then can’t say the same.
